The Directorate of Employment & Training, DET is working under the Department of Labour Resources, Government of Bihar. In the beginning, Industrial Training Institutes were functioning under direct control imageand supervision of the Director General of Employment & Training (DGE&T), New Delhi, Ministry of Labour, Government of India. Since 1956 the administration of Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) under the Craftsmen Training Schemes has been transferred to the State government.

DET functions with the major objectives of providing Vocational Training to the youths in Bihar. To achieve these objectives the DET runs a variety of long-term and short-term training programmes in Industrial Training Institutes in the State. The Directorate of employment and training is the apex organization for development and coordination at state levels for the programmes relating to vocational trades to meet the skilled manpower requirements for technology and industrial growth in the country. To ensure a steady flow of skilled worker in different trades for industry, as well as raise the quality & quantity of industrial production by scientific training. Industrial Training Institutes are under the administrative and financial control of this Directorate.
